Buddhist humor that is actually laugh-out-loud funny as opposed to earnestly amusing is hard to come by. Having seen a few of David’s Buddhist-themed cartoons in the New Yorker and elsewhere, I called him in the summer of 2005 and he agreed to do work for us, to our mutual delight. David has told us, “As a sometime and rather inconsistent student of Buddhism and a long-time devotee of yoga, I have found that both are wonderfully rich ground for humor.” His first drawing appeared in the Shambhala Sun in early 2006. –Editor-in-Chief Melvin McLeod
David Sipress’ cartoons appear regularly in the New Yorker and many other magazines. He is the author of eight books of cartoons and the writer, producer, and host of “Conversations with Cartoonists,” an ongoing series of performances featuring humor and interviews with great New Yorker cartoonists.
