Hotei Bird and Monk
Keith Abbott’s work is contemporary with an ancient feel. So this sumi ink drawing with his personal seal made a perfect opening illustration for Norman Fischer’s piece, “Applied Dharma”—about Zen coming to the West and adapting to life here. This piece has a spontaneous, on-the-spot feel but it is clearly Zen, which expresses exactly the spirit of the ancient tradition of Zen manifesting freshly in the West.  –Liza Matthews
